SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The No. 2 Northeast Community College men's soccer team was in Sioux City, Iowa Wednesday for a ranked showdown against No. 6 Western Iowa Tech Community College. The Hawks fell in the matchup by a final score of 1-0.
Northeast (8-2, 1-1 ICCAC) lined up against yet another ranked team in 2025 in what was a contest containing two programs ranked in the top six of the national rankings who have their main campuses just 80 miles apart. Western Iowa Tech was able to find the back of the net halfway through the first half and was able to keep the Hawks scoreless the rest of the way to hand Northeast their first conference loss in 1,106 days.
The Hawks will have a quick turnaround as they will take on Hawkeye Community College on the road Saturday before battling No. 5 Iowa Lakes Community College at home next Wednesday.
HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Assistant Men's Soccer Coach Adriano Coppolecchia on the matchup with the No. 6 Comets:
"It was a tough battle against a very strong WIT side," Coppolecchia said. "There's a reason they are ranked where they are. Games like this often come down to small details, and today it was decided on a set piece. Our guys fought hard and created chances in the second half after changing a few things, but we just couldn't find the net."
Coppolecchia on his group bouncing back on Saturday against Hawkeye:
"This team is united and will fight through anything thrown their way," Coppolecchia said. "Now we will shift our focus to Hawkeye. Region 11 is tougher than ever with five ranked teams and three in the top six, so every point matters. I am expecting a positive response from the guys!"
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will line up against Hawkeye Community College at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Waterloo, Iowa.
