COLUMBUS, Neb. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team was in Columbus, Nebraska Tuesday night for a showdown with Central Community College in what was the first-ever meeting during ICCAC play of the two schools less than an hour apart. The Hawks took the matchup by a final score of 3-1 to move to three games above .500 in conference play.
Northeast (7-13, 5-2 ICCAC) was led in kills by Alli Brown (Wakefield, Neb.) with 13, which was a new career high after setting her previous career high of 12 just last Wednesday. There were plenty of digs to go around in the contest as Grace Robidoux (Blair, Neb.) tallied 18, Katie Borg (Wakefield, Neb.) trailed closely behind with 17, Nicole Bond (Red Oak, Iowa) recorded 12 and Mckenna Jones (Yutan, Neb.) and Brown each had 10 of their own.
The Hawks dropped the first set 25-22 but pulled off the come-from-behind win with set scores of 25-17, 25-22 and 25-18 in the final three sets. Central was ranked in the NJCAA DII national poll as recently as two weeks ago and the triumph puts Northeast in a tie for third in the ICCAC standings with just four weeks remaining in the regular season.
