HAWKS FIGHT HARD TO FIVE SETS TWICE IN SEASON OPENER FRIDAY IN KANSAS

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team make the trip Friday to Garden City, Kansas for a doubleheader against Garden City Community College and Trinidad State College. The Hawks took both showdowns to five sets but ultimately dropped both contests.

Northeast (0-2) was led in kills in the first contest of the day by freshmen Alli Brown (Wakefield, Neb.) and Rowan O'Keefe (Clear Lake, Iowa) with nine each in their Hawks debt. Northeast took the first set 25-20 and the third set 25-23 before falling in the fifth set.

The Hawks took the first and second set of the second match of the afternoon before Trinidad State began to rally. O'Keefe led Northeast in kills in blocks to continue a stellar day in the middle as the Hawks will now look to finish opening weekend strong in another doubleheader tomorrow.

"We saw a lot of good things and sparks of some talent that will hopefully come to life consistently with this group," Schultze said.

Schultze on what she is excited about in the doubleheader tomorrow:

"Tomorrow's a new day," Schultze said. "We are looking forward to getting back on the court and getting better!"

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will again have a doubleheader on deck as they will battle Lamar Community College at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Garden City, Kansas followed by a showdown with Barton Community College at 2 p.m.
