NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women’s soccer team was back home Wednesday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field at Norfolk for a match against Northwest Iowa Community College. The Hawks downed the Thunder by a final score of 9-0 in 70 minutes of play.

Northeast (5-8-2, 4-1-1 ICCAC) got on the scoreboard first as Maria Gomez-Herrera (Barranquilla, Colombia) recorded the first goal of her collegiate career and the Hawks never looked back as seven different Northeast players found the back of the net in the contest. Madelynne Kovarik (Scottsbluff, Neb.) and Amelia Bingley (Melbourne, Australia) both scored twice in the showdown as the Hawks were able to secure their first mercy-rule victory in program history.

Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller on what stood out in the victory over Northwest Iowa:
"I loved to see the number of girls that scored today," Miller said. "We were able to spread it around. I was really happy to see how many people got a goal."
Miller on battling NIACC in the final home game of the regular season Saturday:
"They'll be pretty good," Miller said. "That will be a tough game for us. I like that we had success today and I thought we played aggressively, so going into Saturday if we can carry that momentum that will be beneficial for us."
