ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 5 Northeast Community College men's soccer team was in St. Louis, Missouri over the weekend to take on St. Louis Community College on Friday and No. 10 Pearl River Community College on Sunday. The Hawks were victorious in both contests by final scores of 4-0 and 2-1.
Northeast (5-1) was able to find the net early and often on Friday as they secured their fourth shutout of the young season behind a stellar defensive performance. Ellis Oksman (Omaha, Neb.) scored first to continue his hot streak of late after his three-goal performance against the University of Arkansas Cossatot on Monday. Olafur Gudjonsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) picked up the first goal of his collegiate career in the contest while Moritz Zettl (Pirka, Austria) tallied two assists.
On Sunday, the Hawks lined up against another nationally-ranked opponent in the No. 10 Wildcats and scored first in the form of a goal well outside of the 18-yard box off the foot of Gabriel Rossman (Vitoria, Brazil). Northeast soon fell down a man but remained composed to secure the triumph in the second half.
The defending national champion Hawks will hit their home turf for the first time since winning the title last year and will host their home opener next at 10 a.m. Sunday against Parkland College at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:
Head Men's Soccer Coach Adam Potter on the victory over St. Louis:
"Really great stuff by our guys," Potter said. "We executed the game plan really well. Overall, it felt like our best performance of the season all around. We had energy, brought intensity, had good recoveries and did a lot well. Really good team win against a very technical side, but we have to keep climbing."
Potter on downing No. 10 Pearl River:
"What a response by our guys," Potter said. "Guys were amped up to play on an awesome stage. The guys have really been applying themselves since last week and understanding what we are asking them to do. More guys are stepping up and into bigger roles. Big hearts win games, and I was proud to see how much passion they were playing with today."
Potter on winning with 10 men and returning home:
"Being able to score down a man shows grit," Potter said. "It wasn't one guy sticking out, but it was our collective group. You could feel the magnitude of the game, and it was really cool to see our guys play up to that level. We took a massive step forward as a group today. Adding another top-10 win on the resume is a huge statement for our group. It will be great to play on our home field next, and we have to continue to climb."
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will return home and will battle Parkland College at 10 a.m. Sunday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
