COOMBS SCORES 18 IN HAWKS WIN OVER SPARTANS

CRESTON, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team traveled to Creston, Iowa Wednesday night for a clash with Southwestern Community College. The Hawks started the second semester with a massive victory by a final score of 96-70.

Northeast (7-6, 3-4 ICCAC) had not played since December 15 but did not show signs of rust as four Hawks scored in double figures. Marcus Coombs (Blackfoot, Idaho) tallied 18 points, Johanes Piscikas (Sandomierz, Poland) added 14 points, Ryan Huston (York, Neb.) scored 14 points and Scottie Johnson (Denton, Texas) had 14 of his own in the triumph. As a team, Northeast shot 54.3-percent from the three-point line throughout the night.

Head Men's Basketball Josh Clark on the night in Iowa:

"First game back from break is always tough," Clark said. "I thought we came out with high energy and were hungry. We shot the ball well tonight and dominated the paint, which is what we've been working on. Proud of the way the guys responded after a long break."

Clark on battling No. 18 Kirkwood next:

"Kirkwood is a great team, but one that we match up well against," Clark said. "We're excited to get back home against a good team."

The Hawks will welcome No. 18 Kirkwood Community College to town at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
