NORTHEAST TAKES FIVE-SET THRILLER AGAINST NIACC IN MASON CITY

MASON CITY, Iowa – The Northeast Community College volleyball team traveled to Mason City, Iowa Tuesday night for a conference showdown with North Iowa Area Community College. The Hawks captured a five-set victory by a final score of 3-2 for their first triumph in five sets this season.

Northeast (13-16, 8-2 ICCAC) dropped the first set of the evening 25-18 but rallied back to win sets two and three against the Trojans. NIACC was able to force a fifth set, but the Hawks were dominant in the final frame by a set score of 15-6 to secure the match. Katie Borg (Wakefield, Neb.) tallied 27 digs in the contest while Mckenna Jones (Yutan, Neb.) recorded 39 assists as Northeast will now look ahead to their final home game of the season against Hawkeye Community College on Thursday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

Head Volleyball Coach Amanda Schultze on the victory against NIACC:

"We really struggled to get going tonight, but they stayed determined and didn't let our errors get them," Schultze said. "We took charge in that fifth set and mixed our offense up. Izabel Hollatz came out strong with three or four kills right away in that fifth set and Grace Robidoux did a nice job serving. That momentum helped us finish strong."

The Hawks will host conference opponent Hawkeye Community College at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
