JONES LEADS THE WAY FOR NORTHEAST AS HAWKS PICK UP FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON SATURDAY

GARDEN CITY, Kan. – The Northeast Community College volleyball team was back in Garden City, Kansas on Saturday to finish their road trip with a doubleheader against Lamar Community College and Barton Community College. The Hawks picked up their first triumph of the season in Game 1 of the day by a final score of 3-1 before falling 3-0 to Barton in Game 2.

Northeast (1-3) jumped all over Lamar early as they took the first set 25-20 and then the second set 25-10. Mckenna Jones (Yutan, Neb.) and Rowan O'Keefe (Clear Lake, Iowa) both led the way for the Hawks with 12 kills and 21 assists while Izabel Hollatz (Creston, Neb.) and Alli Brown (Wakefield, Neb.) each picked up three ace serves to put Northeast in the win column for the first time this year.

Jones again led the Hawks in the second contest of the day as she recorded five kills, two ace serves and eight assists as Northeast will now prepare for their first ICCAC showdown of the season on the road against Southwestern Community College at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Creston, Iowa.

"I loved what I saw from a lot of the freshmen," Schultze said. "The 6-2 offense is not something that I usually run, but I believe that this team is capable of that! We got a lot of touches off the block today, which was great to see!"

The Hawks will begin conference play at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Creston, Iowa against Southwestern Community College.
