NORTHEAST FIGHTS TO THE WIRE AGAINST NO. 11 IOWA CENTRAL THURSDAY NIGHT

FORT DODGE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College volleyball team traveled to Fort Dodge, Iowa Thursday night to take on No. 11 Iowa Central Community College in what was a battle between two of the top three teams in the ICCAC standings. The Hawks fell in the close contest by a final score of 3-1.

Northeast (22-13, 6-3 ICCAC) and the Tritons played tight sets throughout the showdown as the Hawks took the first set 27-25 before dropping set two, three and four by scores of 20-25, 19-25 and 23-25. Shaylyn Safranek (Merna, Neb.) led the way for Northeast with 37 assists as the Hawks will now have a week off before another road trip to Iowa on Wednesday with just four matches left in the regular season.

Head Volleyball Coach Amanada Schultze on the tight contest against the ranked opponent:

"We saw some really good stuff from some girls off the bench and I was very proud of how they played under that pressure," Schultze said. "We get focused on the errors and continue to make them back-to-back, letting teams back in. I'm hoping they will learn from that this next week with two more tough matches."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will return to the road and will battle Hawkeye Community College at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Waterloo, Iowa.
