HAWKS FALL TO REIVERS WITH POSTSEASON PLAY UP NEXT SATURDAY

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team traveled to Council Bluffs, Iowa Wednesday night for their final contest of the regular season against Iowa Western Community College. The Hawks fell in the showdown by a final score of 68-52.

Northeast (18-10, 13-9 ICCAC) jumped out to an 8-1 lead to begin the night, but the Reivers were able to claw back and led by two at the halftime break. Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) and Ayana Owens (Lincon, Neb.) were the leading scorers for the Hawks with 11 points each while Jaida Allen (Crofton, Neb.) recorded eight points of her own.

After the conclusion of the night around the league, Northeast will officially be the No. 6 seed in the Region 11-A Semifinals and will take on No. 3 Iowa Lakes Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday in Estherville, Iowa.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the night against Iowa Western:

"We got out the gates really well and led early in the ballgame," Svehla said. "Iowa Western made a good run and had the lead at half. We struggled to score in the third quarter, and we dug ourselves a hole, but it was good that we had a chance to get everyone some minutes and we came out of things healthy as we head into the postseason on Saturday."

Svehla on beginning the conference tournament on Saturday:

"This is always an exciting time of the year, and we are looking forward to beginning our run in the postseason," Svehla said.

The Hawks will take on Iowa Lakes Community College in the Region 11-A Semifinals beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday in Estherville, Iowa.
