NO. 22 HAWKS FALL IN CLOSE ONE WITH NO. 9 TROJANS IN NORFOLK
NORFOLK, Neb. – The No. 22 Northeast women’s basketball team hosted No. 9 North Iowa Area Community College at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk Saturday in a showdown between two of the top teams in the ICCAC. The Hawks dropped the contest by a final score of 72-66.

Northeast (14-7, 9-6 ICCAC) knew the challenge that would come with facing their second team in the national rankings in as many outings as they fell to No. 19 Iowa Lakes Wednesday night. The Hawks were dominant down low all afternoon as they had 42 points in the paint compared to just 28 from the Trojans. Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) and Aweng Akoi (Sioux Falls, S.D.) both scored 14 points as Northeast will hit the road for two matchups during the upcoming week.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the close contest with No. 9 NIACC:
"We competed against a good, quality opponent and had a chance down the stretch, but we did not covert on a couple of opportunities in the closing minutes that would have really helped our chances," Svehla said. "We did some really good things today, but we need to be sharper on both ends of the court."
Svehla on the week ahead:
"We will keep working and get ready for two road games this week," Svehla said.

The Hawks will hit the road for a battle against RV Iowa Central Community College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
