NO. 24 HAWKS FALLS IN RANKED SHOWDOWN ON THE ROAD TO NO. 14 TROJANS SATURDAY

MASON CITY, Iowa – The No. 24 Northeast Community College women's basketball team took on No. 14 North Iowa Area Community College Saturday in Mason City, Iowa for a conference matchup between two ranked squads. The Hawks fell in the showdown by a final score of 71-64.

Northeast (12-5, 7-4 ICCAC) shot better from the field than the Trojans but were out-rebounded on the glass during the contest. Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) led all scorers with 25 points and added seven assists to continue her spectacular sophomore campaign.

With the loss, the Hawks now sit fifth in the conference standings in what is a highly-competitive league. Northeast will face NIAAC again in two Saturday's on their home floor in Norfolk.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the ranked battle Saturday:

"We competed, but we just didn't play as clean as we needed to for 40 minutes," Svehla said. "We took a lead late in the game with under four minutes to play, but we just couldn't extend it. NIACC is a solid team, and it was a good battle. We need to continue to clean things up and we will get back after it this week."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will head home and will take on Southwestern Community College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
