NORTHEAST GETS BACK TO THEIR WINNING WAYS BEHIND 24 POINTS FROM JONES SATURDAY

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team was in West Burlington, Iowa Saturday for a matchup with Southeastern Community College. The Hawks came out on top in the conference showdown by a final score of 64-53.

Northeast (7-3, 2-2 ICCAC) rebounded from their loss on Wednesday to Iowa Lakes Community College in a major fashion as Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) led the way with 24 points to continue her blazing start to the season. Aweng Akoi (Sioux Falls, S.D.) added 12 points and four blocks as the Hawks will return home for another ICCAC battle next against Iowa Western Community College Wednesday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the victory Saturday afternoon:

"I like how we got out of the gate and executed some things on both ends of the floor that allowed us to open the game up a bit," Svehla said. "Southeastern did a good job of getting back in the game, but down the stretch we got the key stops and got some important baskets to finish it. We'll take the win and get ready for Iowa Western on Wednesday."

The Hawks will return home to face RV Iowa Western Community College at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
