NORTHEAST COMPLETES SEASON SWEEP OF SOUTHEAST WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT HOME

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team was home Wednesday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk for the second time this week for a matchup with Southeast Community College. The Hawks triumphed by a final score of 72-64 to sweep the season series against the Bobcats.

Northeast (5-1) led by as many as 24 points in the third quarter of the contest and were able to hold that lead to secure their fifth victory of the year. Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) led the way for the Hawks with 23 points as Northeast will take their five-game winning streak into their first ICCAC showdown of the year on Tuesday night in a matchup with Iowa Central Community College at home.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the night against Southeast:

"We had a slow start, but then I liked how we got going in the second quarter and early in the third," Svehla said. "We got up 24 and then they made a little run at the end, but we did what we needed to do to get out of there and handle their pressure. They are an athletic team, and it was a good win."

Svehla on conference play beginning next:

"It's still early in the year and on both sides of the ball we have things that we need to clean up," Svehla said. "There's more at stake in conference play, but we're also just trying to get better every day."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will host Iowa Central Community College at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
