OWENS LEADS NORTHEAST TO VICTORY WITH 22 POINTS IN FRONT OF HER HOMETOWN CROWD WEDNESDAY NIGHT
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women’s basketball team hit the road for the first time this season Wednesday night as they battled Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Hawks took down their in-state foe in the matchup by a final score of 69-63.

Northeast (1-1) fell behind 13-0 to begin the contest but slowly worked their way back into contention throughout the evening. Ayana Owens (Lincoln, Neb.) led the Hawks with 22 points in front of her home crowd as the freshman was a graduate of Lincoln High School this past spring. Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) tallied 19 points of her own as the Hawks will return home next for a battle against Mount Marty University JV at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.

"We weathered through a rough start and kept ourselves in it," Svehla said. "That was really key, and we played a better second half. It was a gritty win on the road, and we are looking forward to being back on our home court on Saturday."
