HAWKS FALL IN INTRASTATE BATTLE WITH KNIGHTS

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team stepped out of conference play for a showdown with North Platte Community College Saturday at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk. The Hawks dropped the battle by a final score of 60-45.

Northeast (15-6, 7-4 ICCAC) struggled to get going in the first quarter and faced an uphill climb after falling behind early. Mia Wiederin (Norfolk, Neb.) scored 20 points in the contest and added six rebounds while Alex Arenas (Wakefield, Neb.) tallied nine points and six rebounds of her own. The Hawks will now return to ICCAC play the rest of the year with just seven games remaining in the regular season.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on the afternoon at home:

"We had three points at the end of the first quarter, which is our season low," Svehla said. "We didn't get off to a good start. I thought they did a good job of defending us. We just couldn't find any kind of rhythm. I thought we played better in the second half, but when you have a big deficit, it's tough to overcome."

Svehla on looking toward the week ahead:

"Now we'll move forward," Svehla said. "This game wasn't a regional game, so that's the plus. You always want to win and protect your home floor, and that didn't happen today, but moving forward we have two road games this week and we'll regroup."

UP NEXT:

The Hawks will hit the road for a matchup with Southwestern Community College at 5:30 p.m. in Creston, Iowa.
