WIEDERIN HAS 24 AS NORTHEAST DROPS CONTEST TO NIACC SATURDAY ON THE ROAD

MASON CITY, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team was in Mason City, Iowa Saturday for a matchup with North Iowa Area Community College. The Hawks dropped the ICCAC battle by a final score of 66-60.

Northeast (15-5, 7-4 ICCAC) and the Trojans scored the same number of points in the first, third and fourth quarters but the difference on the scoreboard came when NIACC scored six more points than the Hawks in the second quarter. Mia Wiederin (Norfolk, Neb.) had her third-highest offensive output of the season as she tallied 24 points in the contest. Vilique Fallis (Rapid City, S.D.) recorded 11 points as Northeast will have a bye on Wednesday before returning to action Saturday at home against North Platte Community College.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on how the matchup played out:

"We were in the game and had chances, but just couldn't get it done," Svehla said. "If you turn the basketball over, it is awfully difficult to win. We just did not play clean enough to win on the road."

Svehla on how he and is team will use the bye before getting ready to play again next Saturday:

"It will be nice to not have a midweek game so we can get some rest and the bye will also allow us to improve in some areas," Svehla said.

The Hawks will be back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday against North Platte Community College at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk.
