JONES EXPLODES FOR 31 POINTS AS HAWKS DOMINATE MUSTANGS

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team was back at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk Thursday night for a battle with Morningside University JV. The Hawks took the showdown by a final score of 90-67 to secure their third victory of the season.

Northeast (3-1) was led in scoring again by Aaliyah Jones (Rapid City, S.D.) as the freshman put in 31 points and is now averaging 27 points-per-game through her first four career contests with the Hawks. Mia Wiederin (Norfolk, Neb.) tallied 26 points of her own as the Hawks shot 50-percent from the 3-point line in the matchup. Northeast was also aggressive on the defensive side of the ball as they forced the Mustangs into 25 turnovers. The Hawks will now look ahead to a road duel against another Nebraska squad in North Platte Community College on Saturday.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Matt Svehla on his team putting everything together for the victory tonight:

"We got off to a decent start and led 11-4, but then we had a lull in the first quarter where the ball just did not go in the basket and the score was tied at 11," Svehla said. "We picked it up in the second quarter and we played pretty well in the second half. It was nice to get control of the game, as that gave us a chance to play our entire bench in the fourth quarter. We will need a good effort on Saturday when we travel to play North Platte."
