HAWKS COME UP SHORT IN SEMIFINALS

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College women's basketball team took the court on the campus of Kirkwood Community College Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with No. 6 Iowa Western Community College in the Semifinal Round of the Region XI Division II Women's Basketball Tournament. The Reivers came out on top in the contest by a final score of 63-35.

Northeast (17-12, 8-8 ICCAC) was right there with the nationally ranked Iowa Western squad through the first six minutes of the showdown as the Reivers led just 9-6 early. As the first quarter wrapped up a huge Iowa Western run stretched the lead to 22-6 as the Hawks could not buy a bucket until one minute into the second quarter. From that point on Northeast struggled to make up the difference on the scoreboard as the Reivers led wire-to-wire in the matchup.

Stevi Fallis (Pine Ridge, S.D.): 8 PTS, 3 REB, 3 STL

Head women's basketball coach Matt Svehla on how the duel played out:

"We just did not play our best today," Svehla said. "Our intentions were good, but it just wasn't in the cards."

Svehla on the campaign coming to a close:

"Our team finished the season with a couple of good wins to get into the final four of our region, and I thank the girls for their efforts," Svehla said.
