Hawks fall in Region XI Tournament

BOONE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College softball team had its season come to an end over the weekend, falling to Iowa Lakes Community College on Saturday, 7-6 and on Sunday, 11-2 in the Region XI Tournament in Boone, Iowa.

The Hawks came close on Saturday after scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Brianna Aguilera (Pierce, Neb.) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Taylor Nicolay (Nebraska City, Neb.) had a double, two runs and an RBI. Greta Lindberg (Tekamah, Neb.) was tagged with the loss. She tossed three and two-thirds innings, allowed seven earned runs off eight hits.

Northeast took a 2-1 lead in the top of the second on Sunday, but the lead didn't last long as the Lakers went on to score eight runs in the second and third innings.

Abby Balfour (Nebraska City, Neb.) had a double, while Morgan Haner (Sterling, Neb.) went 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Kierra Stewart (Dodge, Neb.) was the losing pitcher of record. She threw five and one-third innings, allowing eight earned runs off 11 hits.

The Hawks end their season with an overall record of 10-48 and a conference record of 4-40.
