Northeast men rout Southeastern in ICCAC action

BURLINGTON, Iowa – Scoring early and often wasn't a problem for the Northeast Community College men's soccer team on Saturday. With a 3-1 lead heading into halftime, the Hawks secured a 4-2 conference victory over Southeastern Community College at Bracewell Stadium in Burlington, Iowa.

Felipe Guilherme put the Hawks (5-7, 4-4 ICCAC) on the scoreboard first, find the back of the net in the fourth minute. The Blackhawks quickly answered six minutes later, but a goal by Alex Wilcock and Victor Galterio gave the Hawks some breathing room heading into the second period.

"We were able to get on the board first because of a misplayed ball by Southeastern's defense and Felipe was able to intercept and take it to score," head coach Chad Miller said. "Overall I felt we played pretty balanced. We sometimes got turned around on the defensive side of it which we will have to fix, but we played well overall and was able to move the ball."

Arthur Lopes put the game out of reach for the Blackhawks, scoring in the 82^nd minute off an assist from Galterio.

The Hawks outshot Southeastern 16-14. Goalie Massimiliano Simonazzi tallied six saves in the net.

Northeast welcomes Iowa Western Community College to the pitch at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Veteran's Memorial Field in Norfolk.
