No. 11 Marshalltown too much to handle for Northeast

NORFOLK, Neb. - Down by a goal heading into the half, the Northeast Community College men's soccer team couldn't stop the pressure from No. 11 Marshalltown Community College, falling by a final score of 5-1 at Memorial Field in Norfolk.

Felipe Guilherme put the Hawks (4-7, 3-4 ICCAC) on the board, thanks to a penalty-kick at the 18-minute mark. It didn't take long for Marshalltown to answer, scoring in the 21st and 33rd minute in the first period. The strong offensive pressure from Marshalltown forced the Hawks to play on their heels, allowing the Tigers to tally three goals in the second period.

"In the second half we played mostly defense, but were also slow at transitioning back to defense after our attack," head coach Chad Miller said. "I feel we didn't play with much intensity today. I don't take anything away from Marshalltown because they played great and is probably one of the best teams we have seen this season so far. But, this was a great chance for us to play a top team and our intensity wasn't there. We played very flat-footed and with not a whole lot of purpose. We have to get ready for Southeastern this week; it is a game we need to win."

Marshalltown outshot Northeast 23-9. Ricardo Goldner and Guilherme tallied two shots for the Hawks. Goalie Massimiliano Simonazzi had 13 saves in the loss.

The Hawks travel east to take on Southeastern Community College at 2 p.m. Saturday in Burlington, Iowa.
