NORTHEAST MEN’S GOLF QUALIFIES FOR NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The No. 5 Northeast Community College men's golf team traveled to Whispering Creek Golf Club in Sioux City, Iowa this week for a 54-hole event over three days as part of the North Central District Tournament. The Hawks finished in second place as a team and have officially qualified for the 2026 NJCAA DII Men's Golf Championship May 19-22 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana.

The Hawks came up just one stroke shy of defeating No. 4 Kirkwood Community College in the tournament, but Luke Bonser (Durham, England), D'arcy Whyte (Moama, Australia) and Tommy Dredla (Scottsbluff, Neb.) all finished in the top six of the event as individuals. Bonser birdied five holes on the final day to finish in a tie for second place in the tournament while Whyte finished fourth and Dredla finished tied for sixth.

This season will mark the third time in four years that Northeast has qualified for the national tournament. Bonser and Dredla are returning players who were part of the team that finished seventh at nationals last year, which was the best finish to date in men's golf program history at a national tournament. The Hawks have already defeated No. 3 Heartland Community College and No. 4 Kirkwood already this season and will be poised to make even more history next week in Indiana.

Head Men's Golf Coach Ty Heimes on his team qualifying for the national tournament:

"The guys came out and fought," Heimes said. "This was one of our big goals. It stings to come up short of winning the region, but we have the national tournament here in two weeks to forward to and our guys will be ready to play their best."
