BURKE LEADS THE WAY FOR NORTHEAST MONDAY AND TUESDAY IN COUNCIL BLUFFS

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's golf team was in Council Bluffs, Iowa Monday and Tuesday to compete at the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Showcase. The Hawks finished in fifth place at the tournament against three NJCAA DI programs who finished last season ranked in the top 20 of the national polls.

Northeast climbed to as high as second place as a team after Day 1 of the 54-hole event before slightly falling down the standings on Tuesday. Freshman Mason Burke (Fort Atkinson, Wis.) led the way for the Hawks as he compiled scores of 74, 77 and 75 over the three rounds. Sophomore Tommy Dredla (Scottsbluff, Neb.) trailed closely behind as he recorded a finish of T25 as Northeast will now look forward to their final two tournaments of the fall.

Head Men's Golf Coach Ty Heimes on the effort over the last two days from his group in Council Bluffs, Iowa:

"Good first two rounds for the guys," Heimes said. "Not a great last round, but we can build from it and get better. We are going to practice the next couple of days, tune up the game and give it a good fight next week."

The Hawks will compete in the Battle of the Mississippi at Fyre Lake Golf Club next Monday and Tuesday in Sherrard, Illinois.
