HAWKS FINISH WEEK OUT WEST IN MAJOR FASHION

LAS VEGAS & HENDERSON, Nev. – The Northeast Community College golf team headed to Nevada for two tournaments this week and showed that they can compete at a high level.

On Monday and Tuesday, the Hawks competed in the Warrior Invitational at Stallion Mountain Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev., where they got their first chance to hit the links in 2022. Ty Heimes (Battle Creek, Neb.) led the way for the Hawks and finished the tournament in a tie for 24th-place after carding a 75 and a 77. Kody Sander (Lincoln, Neb.) tied for 40th-place with a 78 and a 77.

The Hawks then traveled to nearby Henderson, Nev., on Thursday and Friday for The Legacy Invitational. After shooting an even par on Day 1, Hawks freshman Kody Sander (Lincoln, Neb.) found himself at the top of the leaderboard and tied for the lead after 18 holes. Heimes also found himself in contention after finishing tied for 14th-place and shooting a seven-over par 79 on the day.

On Day 2, Sander cemented his name near the top of the leaderboard and finished the tournament alone in third place. Heimes ended the week in a tie for 19th-place, and as a team the Hawks finished the tournament in sixth place.
