FAINES RECORDS A DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN NORTHEAST LOSS TO NIACC

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team welcomed North Iowa Area Community College to the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk Saturday for a conference showdown. The Trojans took the matchup by a final score of 100-93.

Northeast (5-6, 1-3 ICCAC) led 55-35 at halftime and had everything clicking in the first 20 minutes of the matchup. The Hawks had 40 points in the paint compared to just 28 from the Trojans but struggled to put a stop to an enormous run from NIACC in the second half. Vincent Garrett (Lincoln, Neb.) filled the stat sheet with 17 points, six rebounds and four steals, Bryson Faines (Lincoln, Neb.) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds and Kamari Moore (Norfolk, Neb.) tied his career-high in points with 10.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Men's Basketball Coach Josh Clark on what led to the Trojans comeback:

"Tales of two halves," Clark said. "We talked at halftime that it was 0-0. They hit a few 3-pointers and got right back in it. Their defense caused us to turn the ball over. We just didn't get it done."

Clark on what he wants his team to look like during the second half of the season:

"We are going to take on a new identity of being focused squarely on defense," Clark said. "We can score the ball, but we can't stop guys from scoring the ball. This one is personal and this one hurts. We are going to be a different team coming back from break."

The Hawks will enjoy the semester break before battling No. 12 Kirkwood Community College at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 6 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
