HAWKS CAN’T STOP REIVERS AT HOME

NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College men's basketball team played a near-complete game Thursday night at the Cox Activities Center in Norfolk, but they were unable to get the bounces needed to pull off a victory, falling 86-77.

Fans in the stands erupted when Emaniel Alexandre (Nassau, Bahamas) picked the pocket of a Reivers player, passed the ball to Chaz Cullum (Omaha, Neb.) who then through an alley-oop back to Alexandre to bring the Hawks to within one point of the lead at 27-26 with 6:52 remaining in the first half. A free throw from Alexandre with one second left in the first half gave the Hawks a 37-36 halftime lead.

The second half saw both teams go on a few runs, but the Reivers were ultimately able to make more shots than the Hawks to head home with a win.

HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH

Head men's basketball coach Dan Anderson's overall thoughts on the contest:

"I thought that we played well as a group, as a team," Anderson said. "I thought our defensive talking on the floor was good. A couple of players got into foul trouble right quick. That kind of hurt us. We can't afford to miss any free throws, and we made most of them, but we still missed seven or eight."

Anderson's positive takeaways from the matchup:

"I thought Collin (Storr) started to play," Anderson said. "That got him some experience. He was able to stay in the game the second half better. I liked some of the offenses that we ran. I think the people who came here saw a pretty good game."

Anderson's early thoughts on facing Central Community College next:

"I hope we start a little bit sooner," Anderson said. "We started kind of late. I think we had about five points at the 13-minute mark. We need to start a little bit faster."

UP NEXT

The Hawks will make the short trip to Central Community College for an in-state meeting. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday in Columbus, Neb.
