NORFOLK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team hosted Southwestern Community College over the weekend for a three-game series at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk. The Hawks fell in Game 1 by a final score of 6-4 before taking Game 2 and Game 3, 19-10 and 6-1.

Northeast (24-17, 10-8) was lifted in the first matchup of the series by Jack Borgmann (Norfolk, Neb.) as the sophomore launched the first of what would be a four-homer weekend in the contest. Carter Noakes (Dannebrog, Neb.) recorded a single and a triple while Greysen Strauss (Lexington, Neb.) was solid in relief, tossing 3.2 innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run in the Hawks loss.

In Game 2, Noakes and Borgmann both had three more hits, including two home runs from Noakes and another from Borgmann. Hayden Parrish (Omaha, Neb.) also had three hits and Cole Honick (Fort Collins, Colo.) picked up the victory on the mound with six innings of work.

On Sunday, Borgmann clubbed two more homers to help Northeast secure the series victory. Noakes also tripled for the second time during the weekend and Parrish came up clutch with a bases-clearing triple in the seventh inning to open the game up. The Hawks gave the ball to Ben Sterbens (Omaha, Neb.) for the first time this year as the Game 3 starter and the freshman righty did the job, pitching six innings, allowing four hits and zero earned runs.

    HEAR FROM THE HAWKS COACH:

Head Baseball Coach on what Jack Borgmann has brought to the Hawks during his sophomore campaign:

"He's been consistent," Clapp said. "That's what we thought we could get out of Jack. He has some power, but he also can go to all fields. He is swinging it good right now and we need him to keep going."

Clapp on securing the series victory Sunday:

"Huge series win for us," Clapp said. "We have to take care of business. We are struggling offensively at times. Today, Ben Sterbens threw unbelievable in his first start. He kept us in it, but we couldn't pull away. They switched pitchers on us, and it opened the door for us. Parrish had the big hit to break it open."

Clapp on what he wants to see the next week with No. 14 Iowa Central, No. 19 Kirkwood and NJCAA DI Iowa Western on the schedule:

"Just competing," Clapp said. "I just want us to do things the right way. I always say that if we get beat, we get beat, but there haven't been a lot of teams that have beat us this year. Whether it be pitching or not being able to hit, it's always us beating ourselves. I just want to compete and hopefully we have seven good games here in a row."

    UP NEXT:

The Hawks will battle No. 14 Iowa Central Community College in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
