NORTHEAST SCORES 24 RUNS FRIDAY IN MCCOOK BEHIND EIGHT RBIS FROM GREVENGOED

MCCOOK, Neb. – The Northeast Community College baseball team loaded up Friday for an intrastate doubleheader against McCook Community College in McCook, Nebraska. The Hawks fell in Game 1 by a final score of 9-8 before coming back in Game 2 to take a victory by a final score of 16-4.

Northeast (6-8) saw their bats come alive in the two showdowns as they combined for 24 runs on the afternoon. The Indians walked the Hawks off in the bottom of the seventh inning in Game 1, but the Hawks were able to flush that loss quickly to put together a dominant performance in Game 2. Cade Grevengoed (West Des Moines, Iowa) had a huge day at the plate as the 2023 Honorable Mention All-Region performer tallied three home runs and eight RBIs on the day. The Northeast pitching staff shut down McCook in the nightcap as attention will now turn to the home opener for the Hawks on Sunday.

Head Baseball Coach Marcus Clapp on how the day played out:

"It was good to see us bounce back after Game 1, but we just keep beating ourselves," Clapp said. "Too many errors and when we did score, we gave up runs the next half inning."

Clapp on his squad getting to compete in their home opener next:

"It will be nice to get home and play in front of our fans for a couple of weeks now!" Clapp said.

The Hawks will host their home opener in another doubleheader against McCook Community College beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Baseball Field in Norfolk.
