NORTHEAST MEN’S GOLFERS BURNS, SOLTVEDT AND BAUMCHEN NAMED TO ALL-REGION TEAMS

AMES, Iowa – Northeast Community College men's golf student-athlete Gage Burns (Creighton, Neb.) was named Second Team All-Region while Gunther Soltvedt (Eagle, Colo.) and Tyler Baumchen (Topeka, Kan.) were named Honorable Mention All-Region, it was announced by the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Monday.

Burns put together a solid freshman campaign for the Hawks that was capped off by finishing tied for 11th at the North Central District Championship in Waterloo, Iowa on May 7, which nearly qualified him for the national tournament.

Soltvedt led the way for Northeast at multiple events this spring, which included a tie for 10th place at the Howl at the Hill in on April 15 in Lincoln, Nebraska and a fifth-place finish at the Waterloo Intercollegiate on April 20.

Baumchen finished tied for 18th at the North Central District Championship and finished 10th at the Southeast Spring Invitational in Beatrice, Nebraska on April 1.

Northeast head men's golf coach Ty Heimes was glad to see the hard work from his group this year rewarded by the region.

"I'm proud of them," Heimes said. "It's nice to have all three of your all-region players coming back next year. They had a good outing at the North Central District Championship. I feel like they took a big step from the fall to the spring this year. We need them to come in and take another big step from this spring to next fall and then from the fall to the spring. I'm very proud of them."
