NORTHEAST MEN’S GOLF GETS SEASON GOING IN KANSAS

HESSTON, Kan.  – The Northeast Community College men's golf team traveled to the Hesston Fall Kickoff at Hesston Golf Course in Hesston, Kansas for their first event of the year Monday and Tuesday. The Hawks completed the tournament in a tie for sixth place.

Three freshmen and three sophomores made the trip for Northeast as the fall portion of the schedule began. Ludvig Granlund (Stockholm, Sweden) was the highest finisher for the Hawks as he placed sixth at the completion of the 54 holes. Granlund also recorded the lowest round for Northeast as his 70 in Round 1 was followed closely by Rupert Hurford's (Paris, France) 71 in Round 3.

Head Men's Golf Ty Heimes on how the first event played out:

"It was a solid first tournament for our guys," Heimes said. "Really good field. We have a lot of youth on our team, and we are excited about having a good week of practice to get ready for our next tournament."

Heimes on how his team will spend the next few days:

"It's really exciting to know that we are young and have a lot of room to improve," Heimes said. "The talent is there. We just have to work hard in practice, and we will be where we want to be."

The Blue River Classic is next for the Hawks at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Nebraska.
